When it comes to time trial cycling, every Watt counts. That's why at Rule 28 Clothing Inc., we leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of speed. Our single layer time trial suit, One TT Suit, has undergone rigorous testing at the world-renowned Silverstone Sports Engineering Hub Wind Tunnel to ensure it delivers the unrivalled aerodynamic performance in it's class.

The Testing Process

To truly understand how our new skinsuit performs, we opted for a highly controlled environment. Instead of testing on a pedaling rider, we used a 3D-printed mannequin of a time-triallist on a TT bike. This method provided us with precise insights into how even small modifications to fabrics and suit design impacted aerodynamic efficiency.

Performance Comparison: TT Suit (Prototype) vs. TT Suit 2.0

Our wind tunnel tests were conducted across a range of speeds, starting at 40 kph and increasing to 60 kph in increments of 5 kph. The chart below displays the power required in watts for a rider to maintain these speeds, comparing our previous suit design (TT Suit 2.0) with the One TT Suit.

Skinsuit 40 kph 45 kph 50 kph 55 kph 60 kph
One TT Suit 220.34 W 310.21 W 423.62 W 562.54 W 728.92 W
TT Suit 2.0 233.32 W 323.64 W 430.07 W 562.27 W 723.13 W

Key Findings

The data from the wind tunnel reveals subtle yet crucial improvements in the new One TT Suit. The new suit is optomised to the 40-50kph range where most time trialling occours.

At speeds over 50kph, the older design (TT Suit 2.0) did out perform the new suit, showing a reduction in the power at 55 and 60kph. For the select few riders looking to ride at these high speeds, we would recommend looking to our Neo Suit which comes in both below and above 50kph versions.

Real World Savings

Over a flat 10mile TT, at 50kph, a saving of 6.45W would save this rider over 5.21 seconds.

Put another way, as this rider crossed the line in a One TT Suit, the TT Suit 2.0 would be about 72.3m or 237.3ft behind.

Conclusion

At Rule 28, our commitment to innovation and performance is unwavering. We are dedicated to providing athletes with the most advanced cycling gear on the market. Through meticulous wind tunnel testing, we've fine-tuned our skinsuit to ensure every watt is optimized, giving you the edge you need to outperform the competition.
