At Rule 28, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of aerodynamic performance. Over the past few years we have been developing our next generation of overshoes, building on the performance of previous generations with new fabrics and technologies. As with our skinsuits and aero socks, our overshoes are now available in single and dual layer versions.

As with all our products development and testing took place in the Silverstone Sports Engineering Hub Wind Tunnel. We compared our previous overshoes agains both of out new overshoe styles. To replicate real world riding conditions we tested these 3 options on a rider pedaling at constant cadence of 90 RPM for each run.

Our wind tunnel tests began at 40 kph, increasing in 5 kph increments up to 60 kph. At each speed, we measured the power in Watts required for the rider to maintain that speed. Here’s what we found:

Overshoes 25kph 30kph 35kph 40kph 45kph 50kph
Overshoes (Previous Generation) 74.84 124.19 191.2 283.34 392.76 532.12
Overshoes (Prototype Single Layer) 73.73 122.1 189.14 275.96 383.6 525.36
Overshoes (Prototype Double Layer) 74.8 123.47 188.86 274.27 380.99 522.15

As the data shows, both prototype overshoes required fewer watts to maintain the same speeds compared to our current overshoes, showing improved aerodynamic efficiency. At 50kph a rider wearing the One Overshoes would save 6.76W compared to our previous generation. Whilst wearing our Neo Overshoes they would save 9.97W

Real World Savings

Over a flat 10-mile TT, at 50 kph, a saving of 6.76 W would save this rider over 3 seconds compared to our previous overshoes.

Put another way, as this rider crossed the line in the One Overshoes, the same rider in our previous overshoes would be 41.8m or about 137ft behind you.

The gap is even greater for the Neo Overshoes. Over a flat 10-mile TT, at 50 kph, a saving of 9.97W would save this rider over 4.35 seconds compared to our previous overshoes.

As this rider crossed the line in the Neo Overshoes, the same rider in our previous overshoes would be 60.4m or about 198ft behind you.

Why Choose Our New Overshoes?

Our new prototype overshoes are a leap forward in aerodynamics, designed to give you the edge you need in competitive cycling. Whether you're an elite cyclist or a dedicated amateur, these overshoes can help you achieve faster times by reducing drag and conserving energy. With every watt saved, you’re closer to your personal best.
